Language Matters Workshop Series
How to Raise Confident & Compassionate Children Through Conscious Communication
January 7 - June 17, 2019
Natural Resources, San Francisco
The language children hear during the first seven years of life greatly impacts their psycho-emotional development.
Young children are very attentive to the language we use to tell them who they are, what is or isn’t allowed and how to relate. As children grow, the parents’ and caregivers’ language will become the language of their own internal and external dialogue.
Because how we communicate to children will become what they communicate about themselves, it is important to explore our role as our children’s first language and communication teachers.
If we want our children to be confident and compassionate in the way they relate to themselves, others and life, we need to consciously teach them the language of confidence and compassion.
You are invited to 6 workshops designed to teach you how to talk to your children consciously so they can cultivate inner confidence and compassion for themselves and others.

DATES & WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
JANUARY 28th - CLASS #1: Fostering Healthy Development Through Conscious Communication
We've all felt the power of words. They can bring comfort, inflict pain, make us think, and inspire us deeply. When we're raising children, the way we talk to, with, and about our kids can profoundly impact their growth and development. Come to this two-hour workshop to: - Learn how language and communication affect your child's brain and emotional development;
Access tools for developing--or shifting--your way of communicating with your kid(s); and
Acquire strategies to support children in growing up healthy and resilient.
FEBRUARY 18th - CLASS #2: How to Help Your Children Develop Self-Confidence
What we say to ourselves and about ourselves and our experiences can elicit feelings of confidence or failure, depending on the tone and words of our inner voice. The inner voice we recognize as adults was developed primarily in our early years of life. Our parents and primary caregivers played a big role in how we came to see ourselves, especially as we faced challenging experiences. This two-hour workshop will offer you tools for supporting kids with:
Growing up with a grounded, loving inner voice.
MARCH 18th - CLASS #3: Strengthening Communication While Parenting
Communication is one of the most challenging aspects of any partnership, even before we have children. With all the stresses, lack of time, and exhaustion of parenting, it's no wonder that the way we talk with our partner, spouse, or co-parent can fray or even fall apart when our kids arrive. This two-hour workshop will help you access tools and techniques for maintaining or strengthening communication:
when important decisions need to be made;
when difficult things happen;
in moments of conflict; and
in the everyday.
APRIL 22nd - CLASS #4: Keeping it Together When You Are Triggered
When we are triggered, exhausted or overwhelmed, we sometimes say things to our children and partners we later regret. We feel bad not only because we let our emotions get the best of us, but also because our children learn to relate to themselves and others by observing our modeling. Imagine how powerful it would be to model the ability to approach our own big feelings and triggers with confidence and empathy. Come to this two-hour workshop to:
Acquire powerful tools to communicate consciously with your family when you feel triggered or exhausted;
Express your feelings in a healthy way; and
Avoid regret and self-criticism.
MAY 20th - CLASS #5: Passing on A Conscious Communication Legacy
Children learn to communicate and relate to others from watching and listening to us. We learned to do the same from our parents. When we become parents, we have the important opportunity to choose which of the messages we received from our own family we want to pass on. Join us in this two-hour workshop to:
Understand the messages you inherited from your own upbringing and decide which you want to release or pass on to your children;
Develop a powerful, conscious set of messages you want your children to inherit from you; and
Avoid passing on subtle messages that undermine children's self-trust, well-being, and capacity.
JUNE 17th - CLASS #6: Deepening Connection Through Traditions and Rituals
Rituals, rhythms, and family traditions can be enormously helpful in maintaining a sense of connection and belonging in the midst of a busy family life. These practices also make space for children to open up to you when they need to be heard. In this 2-hour workshop you will:
Gather ideas for rituals to infuse your daily life with micro-moments of connection;
Acquire tools to model and elicit openness and trust from children; and
Develop communication practices to let your children know they can go to you for comfort, safety, and holding.
A WORD FROM OUR WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS
I was floundering as a mom…struggling with sleep, worry and new dynamics in the house with a new baby. The course gave me the confidence to relax as a new mom. I learned valuable tools for parenting and also how to be in harmony with myself and my family. I now find parenting much easier and have the patience and skills to navigate difficult situations. I’m so grateful to Alejandra and Caroline because parenting has become an absolute joy for me.
I appreciate Caroline and Alejandra’s energy — it’s so thoughtful and aware, and I feel as though they are never judging any of us. They’re looking at us through eyes of joy and wonder, it’s so beautiful. They both know their craft so well, too — they are such experts in what they do, and I can tell they love it.
Thank you for helping me to take the time to think and reflect. I’ve read a lot, but it’s not the same as being in a group. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and also being so non-judgmental with all our feelings… Caroline’s and Alejandra’s energies, the balance between both of them, is really nice.
I have taken so many classes — it’s what I do. After this class, I went home and told my husband, this is the class I have been waiting for!
It gave me the internal and external tools I needed to have a realistic and loving parenting vision to raise my little girl with confidence. Internally, it gave me the self-reflection to be aware about how I wanted to interact with my daughter. Externally, it gave me concrete ways to talk to my child to create safety and connection with her in any situation. The space Alejandra and Caroline create is inviting and powerful.
I learned it’s very important to identify my values and the messages I would like to give to my boy and my family… and to communicate better so that my language is closer to my own values. I also enjoyed learning about child and communication development. Alejandra and Caroline created a beautiful community of parents that we all benefitted from.
