bouddhas duoMost of us enjoy feeling spacious and a sense of possibility when we experience harmony and peace in our life and relationships. However, when we encounter conflict with others, we tend to feel contracted and disconnected from life’s flow.

We may go into battle with our internal conflicts or with the person with whom we are in conflict. This combative stance may lead us to attack, defend and creates the desire to prevail over the other.

When we use aggressive strategies, it becomes challenging to stay open to others and to our own feelings. And very likely, someone will get hurt in the process.

Yet, even in conflict we always have the capacity to access our wisdom nature and let it guide us through the yogic principle of ahimsa or non-violence. When we practice ahimsa we are completely present with ourselves, the other, and with the moment we share with them.

Compassionate presence allows us to use the intense energy of conflict and transform it into connection.  It is this alchemical principle that will guide our inquiry.

In this workshop we will discover that when approached with curiosity, openness and compassion conflicts are actually portals to discover more about ourselves and about each other.

We will explore ways of approaching, engaging and resolving conflicts with non-violent presence through an alchemical process that embodies a commitment to the core yogic principle of ahimsa.

Cost: $45 for non-members, $40 for members. Take $5 off for signing up before October 31, 2015.

You long for authenticity in your relationships with others. You want to cultivate deeper connection that comes from honest communication.

Imagine having healthy, nurturing and lasting relationships as a result of speaking clearly, truthfully and with heart.

Imagine being able to skillfully communicate with your friends, your partner, your colleagues even in challenging circumstances. You can have these experiences because all of us human beings have the capacity to thrive in relationships.

72824764-copy-2However, like so many, you don’t know how to truly express who you are or what you need. Some of your relationships feel superficial. Turning to social media to express yourself might help on occasion, but it is not fully satisfying and can actually create more of a sense of disconnection and confusion.

You often don’t speak up for fear of offending others. Your interactions frequently leave you feeling misunderstood, frustrated or powerless.

You are not alone; real connection is what we all yearn for. In fact, we now know from the field of neuroscience that the human brain is wired for connection. To experience this we need to express ourselves differently.

Most likely, you inherited the language you are using, and it reflects the conditioned patterns, beliefs and assumptions of your family and your culture.

It is not a language you have chosen, yet this language is your most frequent and influential tool for making sense of and relating to yourself, others and life.

This inherited language is what I call the Language of Survival.

When you speak the Language of Survival your life experience becomes limited which creates feelings of isolation.

When the sense of disconnection continues, you are more prone to anxiety and depression — the two most common disorders of our time.

That longing in your heart for a fulfilling human experience that goes beyond survival is not a utopian fantasy. A life where authenticity, connection and compassion are present is not only imaginable, it is your birthright.

Language has the power to transform every aspect of life and bring about the connection and ‘realness’ for which you long.

When you connect to what you are experiencing within and are able to express that without judgment towards yourself or other, you speak the Language of Your Heart.

As you learn to become what is true for you, your brain circuitry shifts, your nervous system relaxes and you experience more energy, clarity and peace.

This connection needs to start with yourself and understanding the language of your inner dialogue. Through this awareness you uncover what you really want.

love and friendship concepts - two hands

As you clarify your true longings you are better able to share them with others to foster thriving relationships.

In this transformational 7‐week course we will harness the power of language to bring about the life and relationships you are capable of having.

jnanaworkshop6We all want to be who we truly are. We want to live and express ourselves fully and authentically. We want to develop healthy and transparent relationships.

However, we do not often have an understanding of who we truly are. When we don’t know who we are, we have the opportunity to cultivate Jñāna Yoga: the yoga of understanding.

Practicing this yoga asks us to engage in deep self-inquiry.  This inquiry reveals layers of fabricated identities.

When we hold these fictional self-constructs with compassionate presence, we can then have access to our true Being, or deeper nature. Having access to our deeper nature lead us to communicate in alignment with who we genuinely are.

Jñāna Yoga actually invites us to connect to our authentic self; to that essence that goes beyond our mental stories about who we are or how we tell ourselves we should be.

In this workshop you will learn how to courageously be and express yourself. You will explore and transform the stories that disconnect you from your authentic essence.

You will learn a powerful process to access that deeper layer of the self that is always there to support you in your authentic self-expression.

You will discover how to stand up for what matters to you and communicate it authentically, powerfully and compassionately.

All human beings come to the world with the ability to express themselves through language.

We are also born wired to connect to one another. One of the most powerful and important ways we can connect with others is through our language.

Expressing ourselves authentically and allowing others to do the same is the greatest gift we can give to one another.

Authenticity is about experiencing and expressing our true and unique way of Being. It is what yogis call the Hridaya, the deeper Heart.

When we access our deeper Heart, we find a rich inner world of sensations, qualities and longings. It is from the space of the Hridaya that we feel the yearning to deeply connect to others.

However, our fast-paced urban culture of brief information exchanges and impulsive communication is moving us away from connecting to one another from the Heart. We are left feeling disconnected, frustrated and isolated.

The hunger for connection we feel is a call from our Hearts. Our natural capacity for language and presence hold the key to honoring that yearning in every interaction.

At this time, when the media shows us models of communication where talking over others and shouting to be heard seems to be the norm, it is imperative to bring us back into a space where we can hear one another from the heart and communicate with each other with compassion, awareness and clarity. Communicating from the Heart is healing we need for ourselves in our current relationships and for our future generations.

This is why I want to share with you the 3 Essential Practices for Authentic Connection with Yourself and Others in EVERY INTERACTION.

We all want to be real. We want to show up to ourselves and others fully and authentically. We want to foster healthy and fulfilling relationships. However, we may often find it challenging to truly express who we are. Sometimes we may believe that if we live our authentic selves, we will be rejected by others, or perhaps we believe such a life is impossible for us.

As yoga practitioners walking on a spiritual path, we may confuse being peaceful or compassionate with simply being “nice,” or avoiding conflict because it is not “spiritual.” This can lead to a sense of conflict with our desire to be “spiritual” and our need to authentically express ourselves to others, to set boundaries, or approach life’s inevitable conflicts.

The path of Yoga actually invites us to connect to our authentic self, to that essence that goes beyond our mental stories about who we are or how we should be.

In this workshop we will learn how to unapologetically be ourselves by looking at the stories that disconnect us from our authentic essence. We will learn how to stand up for what matters to us and express it powerfully and compassionately in alignment with our commitment to yogic principles. The wisdom of Yoga recognizes there is always a deeper layer of the self that can be accessed. We will learn to remember and reconnect with those layers to support you in your quest for authentic self-expression.

As our Yoga deepens and matures we understand Yoga more broadly as the art and science of connection.

When we are fully engaged in our asana practice, we sense our bodies, minds and spirits are peacefully intertwined, and we may notice that our internal dialogue is minimized. When we experience this inner connection during our practice, we often leave class and bring the connectedness we feel to our relationships with others. When this happens, Yoga becomes alive in us.

However, we often leave Yoga as soon as we leave the mat. In those instances, we communicate with others and in our inner dialogue in habitual ways with lack of awareness or even aggression.

Other times self-criticism and judgment disturb our practice on the mat. We may feel frustrated or disappointed.

It is in those moments of disconnection with ourselves or with others when we have the opportunity to call in yogic principles to find our way back into connection.

In this workshop, we will connect and explore the yogic principles of yamas and niyamas as an elegant and compassionate guide to reconnection. When we restore our sense of connection we are able to communicate from our Heart (essence nature).

Come explore how your interactions with yourself and others can honor and embody the yogic path of connection. Communicate with yourself and others with presence, awareness, and compassion.

Yoga is the art and science of connection. Yet in our efforts to connect we may be communicating with ourselves and/or others in ways that actually creates disconnection. In our asana practice, sometimes we may feel connected and peaceful. Other times we may feel self-critical and judgmental. We may treat our bodies with compassion during our practice but not our minds.

Sometimes, after we leave class we continue to practice yoga in our relationships with others. Other times we leave yoga on the mat. In those instances we may communicate with others with lack of awareness or aggression. We may forget the principle of Ahimsa, and our intention to speak and act for the benefit of all beings. In this workshop, we will connect and explore yogic principles (yamas and niyamas) to the art of communicating from our Heart (essence nature).

Come discover how your interactions with yourself and others can honor and embody the yogic path of connection: learn to communicate yourself and others with presence, awareness, and compassion.

I will be offering Language of the Heart Workshops as part of the Seasonal Ayurveda & Yoga Immersions with Dr. Scott Blossom & Melina Meza; two yoga masters. I am honored to teach with them and fulfill my dream of bringing Language Alchemy to the yoga community.
In the immersion, the focus is on highlighting the ecology of our internal lives, relationships, and the environment we inhabit.
